“Sleep with my slave.”

Genesis 16:1-6.

“Sleep with my slave.”

Sarah is barren and blames the Lord,(verse 2); Sarai then makes a fatal mistake by suggesting that Hagar her servant girl becomes another wife for Abraham which was acceptable in that culture. Hagar conceives. Now the dynamics of the household changes. The servant girl with child begins to despise Sarai, her mistress; Sarai blames Abraham, (verse 5); then in anger treats Hagar so harshly that Hagar runs away.

When we find ourselves in situations that seem barren or hopeless, taking matters into our own hands leads to self-inflicted misery.

This week, resist the challenge to short circuit God’s plan by taking matters into your own hands. Because past failures can impede your future.
